Susie Wall’s Microneedling + PRP Experience

Humphrey Cosmetic Dermatology, Vancouver, British Columbia, Microneedling with PRP

Susie Wall has been the face of west coast style for two decades. A media personality, brand ambassador and collab designer, Susie has also served as a spokesperson and influencer with retail giants including Nordstrom, Indigo, and Joe Fresh. As a red carpet TV reporter, she has rubbed elbows with some of Hollywood’s biggest names covering fashion and entertainment at the Academy Awards, the Grammys and the Met Gala. Her style segments can be seen coast to boast on Global Television’s #1 rated TMS, The Morning Show.

Susie is also a longtime patient at Humphrey Cosmetic Dermatology and a big fan of microneedling. Recently, she boosted her microneedling treatment with the addition of platelet-rich plasma (PRP). The combination of microneedling + PRP harnesses the body’s regenerative capacity using the body’s own growth factors to stimulate more collagen than with microneedling alone.

Today, Susie is checking in with us 1-month post microneedling + PRP treatment to share everything you need to know about her experience and results from Humphrey Cosmetic Dermatology.

Where did your personal treatment plan at Humphrey Cosmetic Dermatology start? How has it evolved over the years?

I first came to Dr. Humphrey in my late thirties, and (laughs) at the time, I actually thought I might be too late to the party. I had two little girls and was travelling and working a ton between Vancouver and Los Angeles. The work/life juggle, combined with years of brutal sleep, too much sun, and gallons of TV makeup was taking its toll.

Over the years, there’s no question that my needs have changed, but my goalposts have remained. Dr. Humphrey truly knows me. She knows where I’m at in my life, what my priorities are and how much I value my wellness. She distills the information I share with her into an approach that is tailored to where I am today, where I want to be in a few months and even years from now.

How long have you been getting microneedling treatments at Humphrey Cosmetic Dermatology?

I’ve been getting microneedling treatments with Dr. Humphrey’s team for 5 or 6 years now. As soon as I tried it, I was hooked! It sounds creepy, but I actually love the grinding feeling of microneedling, especially at the end of the summer. I’m obsessed with that feeling of shedding a layer of salt and sun and SPF. And bring on the peeling that happens in the days afterwards! Peeling is progress.

What motivated you to try adding PRP to your microneedling treatment for the first time?

Dr. Humphrey had suggested PRP to me last year, and per usual, I sat with it for a minute. And in typical Dr. H style, she gently floated the idea to me with full information, then I circled back, then we talked again, and then I was ready. I called a couple of girlfriends in other cities with phenomenal skin and a very similar approach to wellness. After those discussions, coupled with my deep confidence in the team at Humphrey Cosmetic Dermatology, I booked the appointment. I’m pretty conservative when it comes to treatments, and Dr. Humphrey is magic at interpreting my needs – so when I was ready, I was ready. And in the end, I actually think I over-thought it! But I’d rather that than the alternative.

What were you feeling? What were your goals and concerns?

To be honest, I was a little squeamish around the concept when I first heard about it. But as soon as the treatment started, it was just like any other appointment. My goal was to improve the texture and clarity of the skin, and that goal was absolutely realized.

Tell us about your microneedling + PRP treatment experience.

Well, I’m really used to microneedling, so there were no surprises there. Typically, I’m sensitive along my jawline and lip area, so I always volunteer for gobs of numbing cream. The PRP was simply a blood draw, so a slight prick to the arm – and the rest was essentially the application of the plasma. I’m a researcher, so I knew exactly what to expect, no surprises. The nurse who led the treatment is also an ICU nurse and specialized in this field. I was completely at ease. (laughs) and we were filming the treatment – which I never would do if I was uncomfortable. I was fascinated to finally get it done. I have a girlfriend in Toronto who told me she’d cancelled two PRP appointments because she was so freaked out. I called her about a week after my appointment and said BOOK IT.

How would you describe your microneedling + PRP experience to someone considering trying it for the first time?

Hmm, well, I’d say don’t wear your favourite cream cashmere turtleneck! But I actually had zero plasma wind up anywhere except on my face. I was super excited to experience it. And I’m thrilled with the results – so I plan on incorporating it into my approach going forward. I would say just give yourself a little extra time, get comfortable, ask your questions, and find your zone. Blink, and it’s done.

How would you compare this experience to previous microneedling treatments?

The results were even more pronounced. I call microneedling + PRP a one-two punch. In the best possible way.

What was recovery like?

I always lean pretty red post-treatment, so that’s my baseline. I could wear makeup 24 hours afterwards and had to stay super moisturized in the days afterward because (woot!) I peeled a lot. But there was zero discomfort or side effects for me post-treatment.

What results have you noticed since your last treatment?

The overall clarity is improved, product glides on and absorbs easily, and my skin is so much softer to the touch.

Will these treatments be a permanent part of your treatment plan moving forward?

Oui!

Would you recommend this treatment to a friend?

Oui!

What keeps you coming back to Humphrey Cosmetic Dermatology?

The consistency of care combined with their holistic, customized approach. There is not a high staff turnover at Humphrey Cosmetic Dermatology. So not only are you interfacing with a happy, cohesive team – but also, there’s a trust and history in a place that I really value as part of my experience.

Anything else you’d like to share about your results or your experience?

There’s so much pressure in this life to look how someone else thinks we should look and to fit into categories determined for us by people we don’t even know. My advice? Find your own edge and ride it however you want.
